With the Thanksgiving feast upon us, many of our churches will sing the old Lutheran hymn, Nun Danket Alle Gott (“Now Thank We All Our God” LSB 895).

This kind of thing is inevitable once the substance of reverence is removed from a place of worship and replaced by the style of the world.

As Patton observed concerning the men who were beaten at Kasserine Pass, I believe we in the ministerium suffer for want of discipline.

In an earlier post, I mentioned the conversion and baptism of Katherine Von Drachenberg, also known as the TV personality Kat Von D. She recently appeared on a podcast, in which she said (as quoted in a Relevant Magazine article): “I want to worship. I don’t want to go to a concert.”

We thank God for the second unanimous acquittal today for Bishop Juhana Pohjola and Dr. Päivi Räsänen.

Here we are, October 31 Anno Domini 2023, 506 years since the posting of the 95 Theses - and the grift of the prostitution of the Word of God goes on. As P.T. Barnum is apocryphally quoted: “There’s a sucker born every minute.” It is up to us Christians - and perhaps especially even more up to us so-called Lutherans - to call Bubulum Stercus on these grifters, and to point people to where true grace is to be found: the Word.

I was surprised to see that I received a magazine (Fall 2023) published by a former LCMS university. But to be charitable, I suppose it takes time to update mailing lists and magazine subscriptions when one leaves the synod. I did not give it much thought, and set the publication aside.
