The Angels Worship God the Son - Martin Chemnitz
Martin Chemnitz on Angelic Worship of God the Son:
“… it is not necessary to guess or argue as to how the statement in Philippians 2 regarding the bowing of the knee on the part of things heavenly, earthly, and under the earth is to be understood. For the matter is most clear in Rev. 4:9-11 and 5:1ff. where both angels and saints in heaven come to Him not only as He sits on His throne, since He exists from eternity and has created all things, but they also prostrate themselves before Him as the Lamb who was slain and has redeemed us by His blood; they come having vials full of costly ointments, which are the prayers of the saints; and they sing a new song, saying: ‘You are worthy to receive the book, since You have been slain and have redeemed us to God though Your blood; and I heard the voice of many angels saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessings.’ And every creature which is in heaven and on earth and under the earth, I heard them all saying to Him wo was seated on the throne and to the Lamb, ‘Blessing, honor, glory, and power or dominion forever.’ This is the surest interpretation of what Paul says, ‘That at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, things on earth, and things under the earth.”
