Another Improvement at Gottesdienst

Weedon.jpg

We keep things moving at Gottesdienst, and our latest move, as you may already have noticed, was to score a great addition to our blogging staff, in the person of Rev. William Weedon. Fr. Weedon just returned to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hamel, Illinois where he was installed as assistant pastor, after serving for several years as LCMS Director of Worship, and Chaplain at the International Center in St. Louis. He has also for a long time been active in the Lutheran blogosphere, demonstrating confessional acumen and liturgical expertise. We have already benefited from it on this blog, early last week, and again a couple days ago.

And here’s another, from behind the scenes. Recently the editors were discussing (via email) some things pertaining to the importance of maintaining a distinction between ordinations and installations, and Weedon deposits this little gem: “The most neglected sentence in the Symbols for its implications: ‘It is clear that ordination administered by a pastor in his own church is valid by divine law.’ Tractatus 65.” Divine law?! Ah yes, maybe ordination is a bit more than just a pastor’s first installation.

Welcome, and thanks to Fr. Weedon for augmenting our progress!
