Dear “Dale”: Thank you for this opportunity to further explore the idea of holiness.

Last year, I had occasion to visit Orlando, Florida. I had the double joy to visit Zion Lutheran Church in Winter Garden (in the suburbs). There I met the Rev. Robbie Rojas and his lovely family.

Often our critics complain that the Gottesdienst blog and podcast are “out of our lane,” that we are somehow breaking the eleventh commandment by commenting on things that are not strictly speaking, things liturgical.

The CTCR has issued a statement concerning the Large Catechism with Annotations and Contemporary Applications. It is a welcome development, and it does clarify an important matter

We begin Lent, a period of repentance and self-denial, by beginning the reading of St. Mark’s Gospel.  It is the shortest of the four, which quickly gets us to the cross, often using the urgent term “immediately.” 

It is always amusing when people assume the editors of Gottesdienst agree on every single issue. We don’t. And thanks be to God!

Although I only met him in person a few times over the course of some twenty years, I’m honored to have known Fr. Hans O. Andrӕ on this side of glory. He was, and is, a truly great man, and was an inspiring servant of the Word on this side of glory.
