In Case You Missed It: Kudos to President Harrison

Readers of this blog are well aware of the kerfuffle that has arisen from the recent publication of CPH’s Luther's Large Catechism with Annotations and Contemporary Applications. Confessional alarm bells have been going off in various quarters, not least here. And we also alerted President Harrison directly about our concern that Critical Race Theory has snuck in, evidently quite under the radar, in this book.

Today Larry Beane wrote again on the matter, and why it matters. Toward the end of his post, he thanked the President for the action he took yesterday: “I am grateful to President Harrison for putting the brakes on the project until it can be looked at again. Even if the text is upheld in its entity and reissued, I think it is wise to give it a second look considering the controversy. It is better to err on the side of caution.”

I think the President’s swift response is worthy of highlighting, and of our approbation. He took his action swiftly, calling for a stay on publication, with this explanation that was tweeted late yesterday afternoon:

“In light of concerns raised, I have asked CPH to cease [its] distribution. This will allow us time to evaluate the comments and critique received and revisit our doctrinal review process, which is my responsibility. . . . I ask for your patience.”

Thank you indeed, President Harrison, for your diligence.
