"Fast Food Communion": a Neo-Evangelical Critique

Here is a surprising article criticizing the minimalist and dismissive approach to Holy Communion as generally practiced in Neo-Evangelical churches. It seems that there is some soul-searching going on, not to mention historical and theological reconsideration of just what the Sacrament is.

Think of how much more relevant the author’s argument is among us in the Churches of the Augsburg Confession, where even the least reverent in our communion at least confess in a dogmatic way that the bread and wine are truly the body and blood of Christ.

As the shadows grow longer, we may be seeing the remnant of believers moving into a more reverent, more sacramental expression of Christianity. That, along with an abandonment of irreverence, indifference, vulgar, and vapid expression of worship, is a most welcome development.
